What is in Water?
Hong Kong's water source is mainly from Dong Jiang River in China. The
upstream of the river goes through the heart of South China industrial and
farm zone with very diverted source of pollution sources in additional to
normal human related discharge.
In municipal or city
public water supply, the water has generally been treated with Chlorine and
goes though a number of purification process such as electrodialysis,
Flocculations, etc. to achieve the desirable cleanliness and also taste. By
the time it reaches our home, however, there are still many components than
eyes can see. Typically, water coming from city water treatment plant does
exceed majority of water standards in the world. However, there are still
materials inside which typically can impact your health in long term.

There
are many sources which can re-contaminate our drinking water in the
municipal system. Even without all these external contaminations, there are
still traces of many different substances including heavy metal and
artificial synthesis organic materials, such as pesticide, detergents,
industrial chemicals, etc. which affect health and still leach into our
water supply. (Click picture to enlarge) |
