Water Quality Monitoring for High Purity Water (HPW)Depending on the type of water treatment system, different quality control system is require to monitor the performance and thus the reliability of the system. It is of good house keeping practice and good hygiene. There are two easily measurable parameters for high purity system such as reverse osmosis, deionized and distillation water treatment process to monitor the cleanliness of water. They are 1. "Total Dissolve Solid", TDS, can be easily monitor by a small hand held or wall mount meter. It is normally measured in units which shows the amount of solid salt dissolved in water in terms of parts by weight of solid per millions parts of water. For surface portable water typically coming out from faucets, the TDS can fluctuate from as low as 50 to 250 parts per millions. Whereas TDS value for RO water is normally under 30 due to the small trace of minerals still exists in the water and for distilled water is normally at and below 5 parts per millions. 2. "Conductivity", of water. It is measured of electrical conductivity of water. Pure water has conductivity of less than 0.006 microS(Siemen), RO water has around 1 microS and tap water is in the order of over 1000 microS. Of the two parameters, because conductivity is easily affected by even small traces of ionic contamination and it can not easily measure non-ionic contaminants, thus TDS measurement is generally the preferred method for domestic and commercial water purity measurement whereas Conductivity is reserved for medical and industrial ultra pure water evaluations. As for approximation, 1 Mohm.centimeter is approximate to less than 0.5 ppm TDS. Consult your Perfect Life Water Specialist for information and need of water quality monitoring. Both inline and handheld units are available upon request for different monitoring requirements. |
