Chlorine is used almost universally in the treatment of public water supply because of its toxic effect on harmful bacteria and other waterborne, disease-causing organisms. But there is growing evidence that chlorine in water may actually pose serious health risks when it is absorbed into human body over long period. Chlorine can destroy protein in our body and cause adverse effects on skin and hair.

Carbon filter is an excellent means of removing chlorine from cold tap water, typically in the temperature range of 50-75 F. Its efficacy and life, however, drop off sharply at high temperatures encountered in hot showers, in the range of 85-105ºF. Contaminants get "off-loaded" back into the water.

Sprite has invested a great deal in developing its proprietary Chlorgon®, high temperature catalytic media of minerals and calcite, which become more efficient as the water temperature increases. Sprite shower filters are densely packed with Chlorgon® and KDF, and will filter out at shower temperatures both free and combined chlorine(s), dirt, sediments, odor-causing organic chemicals, hydrogen sulfide, iron oxide and sand.

KDF is more than conventional filter media made of high-purity copper and zinc compounds. It utilized physical phenomena known as Redox Reaction that either oxidizes or reduces water borne impurities into harmless substances, such as chlorine to chloride. Other contaminants such as aluminum, arsenic, iron, mercury, lead and other heavy metals bond to the KDF media.
